Dr. Jack Plotkin, PrincipalDr. Plotkin begins his tenth year in El Segundo and 17th in education this year. He earned Bachelor's degrees in Foreign Affairs and Spanish from the University of Virginia before pursuing a Master's in Special Education and beginning his teaching career at the high school level. Dr. Plotkin moved on to teach middle school RSP and Spanish in the South Bay and earned his Master's in Educational Administration from Pepperdine University. While serving as Assistant Principal at Richmond Street Elementary, Dr. Plotkin began his doctoral studies at UCLA and completed his program in 2011 with his dissertation that examined the post-school transitions of students with mild disabilities. Dr. Plotkin firmly believes in inquiry based learning that prepares and empowers students to create the best lives possible for themselves and those around them. He strives to build positive relationships with students and staff where they feel free to take risks for the sake of new learning. He relishes being part of the ESMS family and El Segundo community.

The Assistant Principal's Office at El Segundo Middle School oversees the following, among others:
